ALL ABOARD!

BELMOND ROYAL SCOTSMAN, SCOTLAND

A train journey in the old style. A combination of traditional style, elegance and comfort which offers an incomparable way of exploring the best of Scotland and the Highlands.

Ladies and gentlemen board the train, the marvellous Belmond Royal Scotsman: one of the luxurious and exclusive proposals for discovering Scotland and its Highlands. A journey which begins in the Scots’ most aristocratic capital, Edinburgh, and crosses emblematic parts of the country.

The journey is a special one because of its surroundings, the train’s characteristics, the comfort of the carriages, and the fact that only thirty-six people can travel in it. The centre of the train’s social life is in the so-called ‘observation coach’. It is a place where one can get to know one’s travelling companions and savour an aperitif while watching an unending sequence of ancient castles, small hamlets and beautiful, green valleys.

There are some stops along the route which enable passengers to practise open-air activities such as clay pigeon shooting, or to try some of the best-known holes, in the country which invented golf. One can also savour some of the most genuine scotch whiskies in the most treasured distilleries, and pay a visit to one of the most phantasmagorical castles of ancient Scotland.

When night falls, it is time for a cocktail, and then the candlelit dinner. During the journey, there are, alternately, formal and informal dinners. The train stops for the night, in the interests of safety and the quality of the evening. Now it only remains to settle in your compartment in the sleeping car, and to dream about the new adventures that await you on the following day. Good night, and sleep well!

The F&S ‘MUST SEES’

  • The Belmond Royal Scotsman is a vintage train that can carry only thirty-six people. To travel in it is to enter a world full of emotional stories and impressive landscapes.
  • As in one of those fantastic tales of Agatha Christie, enjoy formal dinners alternate where is recommended that gentlemen wear a dinner jacket or a kilt, and ladies a cocktail dress.
  • Along the route, one can enjoy open-air activities such as clay pigeon shooting, a safari through the Highlands, or visits to the ruins of ghostly castles.
  • Enjoying Scotland as a Scotsman does. This is the land of whisky, and a journey in the Royal Scotsman involves getting to know some of the most important distilleries. Also, practising golf, the scotland national sport.
  • Edinburgh is one of the most beautiful corners of Europe: the old fortress that dominates the city, the commercial Princess Street, the Royal Palace, Holyrood Palace, the modern Scottish Parliament and also a street called "World's End".
IN THEIR OWN WORDS…
"It is a journey that transports you to the magic of Scotland, to the innermost heart of the old British Empire. My wife and I keep a wonderful memory of those days when we crossed the Highlands by train."
